Returning to the UK for the third time, the 2008 MTV Europe Music Awards are approaching fast on Thursday (November 6) in Liverpool. The city's Echo Arena is undergoing last preparations before the show is opened by first-time host Katy Perry, who's been in Liverpool since Tuesday.
Her co-host, queen of mean celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is set to create mischief on the red carpet, and 80s crooner Rick Astley received a surprise nomination in the Best Act Ever category. Another special award will go to Liverpool's famous son Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney who will pick up his Ultimate Legend Honour in person.
The show will use 2000 amps of electricity, enough to power about 100 homes.
The production team will use a total of 327 walkie talkies to communicate with 113 network connections.
The red carpet will be nearly 35 meters long and 5 metres wide - over 175 square metres of carpet.
And then of course, there's the performers: Beyonce and Kanye West will perform alongside British stalwarts Take That and Duffy.
MTV invites fans to decide all but one of the categories -- Video Star -- and in 2007 nearly 80 million votes were cast ahead of the event, one of pop's biggest nights outside the United States. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
