- Story Text: The prime ministers of Serbia and Slovenia said their countries were working towards economic recovery as they opened the largest single Slovenian investments in Serbia on Tuesday (November 2).
Slovenian Prime Minister Borut Pahor and Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic opened a metal factory in the Serbian town of Indjija which is expected to employ 100 people.
Slovenian concern "Maximus" has invested about 21 million euros into the factory.
After cutting the ribbon with his Serbian counterpart Pahor said that political and especially economic relations between the two countries have improved significantly in recent years despite the financial crisis.
"We go on, we go through recession, we go on with investments. Serbs in Slovenia, Slovenians in Serbia and it happens and because of that there has been an 11 percent increase in trade in the first ten months of this year. And it's a good sign, it's a good signal. There are a lot of problems in Serbia, there are a lot problems in Slovenia, but there are good signals. Slowly but surely we are coming out of this recession and we are heading towards recovery," he said in Serbian, as a gesture of friendship.
Slovenia is one of the biggest investors in Serbia, and Serbian economy Minister Mladjan Dinkic said the factory was an example of the good relations between the two countries.
"We can quite safely say that the Slovenian investors are amongst the best we have had since the transition in Serbia ten years ago and we are convinced that this factory is going to be one more piece of evidence which will prove this," Serbia's economy Minister, Mladjan Dinkic said.
The factory's opening ceremony came after the Slovenian and Serbian prime ministers met to emphasise their commitment to future economic relations. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
