- Story Text: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Catherine, who is more popularly known as Kate, will celebrate their second wedding anniversary on Monday (April 29).
The pair have been in the spotlight frequently in the past two years, and especially since they tied the knot in Westminster Abbey.
At Kate's first Gala event in June 2011, an annual dinner for the children's charity Absolute Return for Kids (ARK), she dazzled the crowds wearing a sequinned dress by Jenny Packham.
In the following month, the couple went on a royal visit to Canada and America where their visit delighted cheering Canadians.
Next stop on their north American tour was California, where they met Hollywood stars at a BAFTA dinner.
The couple remain a favourite of British monarchy fans around the world.
Outside Buckingham Palace, tourists were full of praise.
"They are just the epitome of a beautiful British couple. I just think they are just precious," said one young American tourist.
"They will have very beautiful babies," joked a man from the south of France.
Following in the footsteps of Princess Diana, William and Kate visited young patients at the Royal Marsden cancer hospital in the south of England, in September 2011, where Diana made one of her early public appearances.
Sharing his mother's ability to connect with people from all walks of life, William made homeless young people laugh as he danced during a visit to the homeless charity Centrepoint - another charity supported by Diana.
In February and March 2012, William was sent to the Falklands as part of his Royal Air Force job, where he continued his work as a search and rescue pilot.
Far from shying away from the spotlight in her husband's absence, Kate carried a number of successful solo engagements and public appearances with the in-laws.
She got Valentine's cards from sick children at a hospital in Liverpool and 'went shopping' at the upmarket Fortnum and Mason store in Piccadilly, central London with the Queen and Prince Charles' wife, Camilla.
Kate gets on well famously with Prince Charles, and the pair seemed at ease in each other's company during a visit to a children's arts charity in London, where they tried their hand at collage making.
A few months before the start of the London 2012 Olympics, Kate showed off her hockey skills playing with Team GB's women's team.
The couple's engagements continued in the run up to their first wedding anniversary, attending a reception to honour soldiers who were raising money for a new health service for recovering wounded soldiers.
The Duke and Duchess talked to some of the wounded soldiers but the highlight of the day was a baby who caught the guests' attention. William cradled the yawning baby in his arms, calling him "sweet".
In June 2012 the couple, along with Queen Elizabeth and other members of royalty, took part in an armada of 1,000 vessels to celebrate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Kate and William waved to the cheering crowds who were watching along the river Thames.
The Duke and Duchess surprised Australian athletes in August 2012 when they visited Team GB House at the Olympic Park. The royal couple posed with the athletes and with the volunteers, thanking them for their efforts at the Olympic games before joining in applause when Britain won a gold medal in cycling men's team pursuit.
As part of an Asia trip, Prince William and Princess Kate visited a school for children with special needs in Singapore. Kate met with some of the children and joined them in some painting.
A few days later the couple were in Kuala Lumpur where crowds cheered and gathered around as they left on a canoe float. They also visited a mosque during their time in Malaysia. Kate wore a short white dress and kept her hair partly covered.
However, the trip took a more serious tone after photographs of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing topless were published by a French magazine, Closer, on September 14, 2012. The magazine headline read "Oh my God!" calling them "pictures that will go around the world".
British newspaper headlines expressed the "outrage" of the royal family in reaction to the published photographs. Some headlines read "William blows his topless", and "Royal outrage: I won't let Kate suffer like my mother."
In December, the pregnancy of 31-year-old Kate was revealed when she was admitted to hospital for four days, suffering from a type of severe morning sickness which is slightly more common among women expecting twins.
The baby will be the first child of Prince William and Kate since their marriage in April 2011. The baby's sex has not been revealed, leaving people to speculate on the gender.
Britain and other Commonwealth countries which have Queen Elizabeth as their monarch have agreed to change the rules of royal succession so that males would no longer have precedence as heir to the throne.
On St Patrick's day Prince William and Kate took part in the celebrations at the Aldershot Barracks in England with the Duchess presenting sprigs of shamrock to officers and guardsmen of the 1st Battalion Irish Guards.
Kate and William's baby is due in July, and the pregnant princess visited a tube station in London last month (March) where she was presented with a "Baby on Board" badge to a round of applause.
Two days later, Kate, who is around six months pregnant, braved the cold weather and spent time with members of the Scouts as they cooked dough sticks in the outdoors on an fire.
On April 26 The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry enjoyed a tour of the studios where the Harry Potter films were made - and were given a lesson in wizardry.
The royal trio were chauffeur-driven to officially open the Warner Bros studios where the popular movies were produced. Kate wore a black jacket and a 38 polka dot dress from Topshop that showed off her baby bump as she, William and Harry met executives from the film studio near Watford.
It is home to the Making Of Harry Potter tour that has proved a huge attraction for fans of the teenage wizard. Also invited for the visit were 500 children, and their parents, associated with charities that have one of the royals as their patron.
