- Story Text: Love, comedy and jazz might sound like an odd combination, but for singer Michael Buble it's normal.
The crooner is releasing his sixth studio album with the lead single "It's a Beautiful Day", which comes with a music video that could double as a comedy sketch.
"I love using humor on stage and being self-deprecating when I do a talk show or when I do skits. I love going on Saturday Night Live. I mean I'm on Jimmy Fallon tomorrow and that's so much fun," said Buble, who served as the head writer and host for this year's Juno Awards.
"I really think if I make a movie it will probably be more dramatic I'm guessing. And the truth is, as much I want to make movies I just, I will never do it at the expense of my singing career. I think too many people spread themselves too thin," Buble added.
In 2011 the Canadian singer's holiday album "Christmas" was the biggest selling CD of the year, behind Adele. But even after winning three Grammy awards and selling over 45 million albums worldwide Buble admitted he was anxious about the release.
"It wasn't that I was nervous it was just a lot of changes. This was a far more organic record. I take more risks I think. But because of the impending fatherhood, I felt really brave, I felt like I was able to make the record I felt I had earned the right to make," he said.
"To Be Loved" is packed with four original songs and ten standards from Motown to classic jazz hits, and even a duet with Academy Award winning actress Reese Witherspoon. So far this formula is working for him and he has no plans to change his direction.
"It will never get to a point where I have a record that comes out of all originals. That's just not something I want to do. I think something that makes what I do special is that hopefully I'm doing something better than anyone else in the world is doing it. And God my ego is huge," he said jokingly.
The 14-track CD features numerous upbeat positive songs. The 37-year-old said the album reflects the peace he has recently found in his life.
"I think what helped with it was, I think that I'd had gone through a very public breakup and I just, I didn't always like myself that much. I think that I, I don't know. I mean, it sounds like, this is like getting into therapy. But honestly, you know what, if you don't love you, no one else is going to."
To help celebrate the release Buble stopped inside one of New York City's subway stations for an impromptu acapella performance off the Jackson 5 hit, "Who's Lovin' You" with the group Naturally 7.
In August Buble and his wife, Argentinean actress Luisana Lopilato are expecting their first child. The couple is expecting a boy, but have yet to decide on a name.
"I keep coming up with names like Thor. And I'm saying, 'come on baby, Thor will be a great name.' And she thinks I'm serious and says, 'no baby, Thor is not a good name for it,'" he said with a smile.
To the chagrin of his managers Buble has already started to scale back his schedule to prepare for fatherhood.
"I won't go out on the road for more than three weeks, I've changed my schedule. I use to go out for about month and a bit and then come off for about a week. And then go back for a month and take two weeks. And now my schedule is straight, it's 3 weeks on, 2 weeks off, 3 weeks on, 2 weeks off."
Before the arrival of the baby, Buble will play ten sold out shows at London's 02 Arena on June 30th. The show will feature Buble's original hits and the standards he loves keeping alive.
"I look at people that I idolize like Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and Bobby Darin. And I get great satisfaction out of flying to 45 countries all over the world and reintroducing these incredible songs to generations of kids."
