- Story Text: Designer Marc Jacobs gives his woman a spare '60s look in wool and metallics - clothes so glam that she doesn't come home until sunrise - for his Fall 2013 runway show, which got raves from his fans, including actress Christina Ricci and singer Miley Cyrus, at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
American designer Marc Jacobs took a shine to the lean 1960s styles for Fall 2013, creating clothes so glamourous that his woman doesn't come home until sunrise.
He showed his collection on Thursday (February 14) at night, closing out Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.
His fans, including actress Christina Ricci and singer Miley Cyrus, raved about the designer's fall runway collection.
Marc Jacobs lit his circular runway with a huge yellow sun. Clearly, his woman went out for the night and had such a good time - or such bad time perhaps - that she didn't come home until sunrise.
One pretty young thing looked like she had escaped from a wild evening - wearing only a pair of high-waisted gray shorts and carrying her bag in one hand, while shielding her bare breasts with an arm half encased in a long black fishnet glove.
Jacobs showed 55 looks for fall and winter at the Lexington Armory, a New York location with a downtown vibe.
Prim jackets and pencil skirts, short swinging jackets and slim skirts, a double-breasted flared coat and A-line coats echoed the silhouettes of the early 1960s.
Every model wore a black wig styled in the spiky pixie of a young Liza Minnelli.
Classic wools in camel and other neutrals shared the stage with metallics in gold, copper, silver, burgundy, black and emerald green.
Jacobs cut what he called "pyjamas" for women that echoed the lines of boxy men's pajamas from the late 1950s "pillow talk" movies and early 1960s TV series like "The Dick Van Dyke" show.
Lean evening gowns in glittering metallics clung to the body like a second skin.
One gown in gold metallic, anchored in back by criss-cross straps, was cut down to there - just above the curve of a lovely derriere.
Fur stoles were draped casually around the neck or over one shoulder.
The designer took his runway bow in burgundy silk PJs with short sleeves - echoing one of the signature looks he created for his gorgeous femme.
Singer Miley Cyrus, a front-row guest, talked with Reuters Television about the collection after the show.
"I think he just brings in a little bit of everything. It was all really beautiful with all the, like, glitter, but also the suits were
really chic, but still really rocker with everything else that he did," Cyrus said.
"It's fun. He breaks a lot of rules and makes it look really good."
Actress Christina Ricci, who also sat on the front row, also had high praise for the designer.
"So you can feel really, like, great and loving and an affinity for the clothes and anyone who puts them on. You just look immediately chic and impeccably dressed," Ricci said.
When the Marc Jacobs show ended, the curtain came down on the Fall 2013 runway collections at fashion week in New York. For some New Yorkers, the night was still young - with time left to celebrate Valentine's Day. For tired fashionistas, this was the sweet spot. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
