- Story Text: Unique cookbook using exclusively testicles as the main ingredient, was published last week in London, The cookbook with a title "Cooking with Balls" was promoted as a multimedia e-book by YUDU.com.
The book was prepared by Ljubomir Erovic, 45, who was putting down on paper his recipes on bull's testicles in béchamel sauce or testicle goulash.
He cooks in a his friend's inn "Stallion's Night", during the breaks between playing guitar and telling stories to guests, in his home town Gornji Milanovac 120 kilometres south from Belgrade.
The book contains recipes, such as "Calf Testicles in Wine"
(white or red but not sweet), testicles with bourguignon sauce, or "Pig's Testicles with Potatoes" and
"Bull Testicles with Béchamel Sauce". There is a special pizza too. Ingredients for his testicle pizza recipe include cheese, onion, pepper, bacon and bull's testicles. The recipe for omelette with calf testicles start, "Remove fine veins from the testicles and put them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes".
For this cousine testicles from over a dozen different animals could be used: from bulls and pigs to rams, stallions and ostriches.
Rich in testosterone, so called "white kidneys" have been considered to be strong aphrodisiac and in some countries like China, believed to be a cure for impotence if eaten on a regular basis.
"So, through healthy food to better sex, if somebody does not believe he should come to Gornji Milanovac to this inn, and try food from testicles and day after to tell me his experience, I am guarantee for this," Ljubomir Erovic said.
However, Erovic, a musician, machine engineer, sports pilot and chef, said friends, tasty food, good music and wine are what counts. "I've always loved the unusual, strong things in life."
Erovic uses lot of imagination in his cooking on a grill or wooden stove, adds various spices, such as fresh rosemary, yarrow, thyme and basil, grapes and wine.
Animals are not killed for the purpose, they are anyhow castrated for better growth or the animals have already been killed for food.
"What testicles are the best, you have to ask my ex-girlfriends before I got married," Ljubomir Erovic added.
In 2004, Erovic and a group of enthusiasts established the World Testicle Cooking Festival in his hometown of Gornji Milanovac, with no financial support by the town, he sold his apartment to fulfil his dream.
Chefs from Greece, Hungary, Finland, Norway, even Australia arrive every May to make grill, goulash or pie of testicles from some 15 sorts of animals, from bulls, pigs and sheep, to stallions, kangaroo and ostriches.
A Serbian version of the e-cookbook will be released in a few months, as well as a hardcopy. It offers a reader not only precise cooking guidelines but also advices him on the atmosphere that will add to the flavour. During and after the meal, home-made dry wine is recommended with a good song and music. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
