- Story Text: Heavy snow caused about thirty flight cancellations at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport on Monday (January 21), while passengers faced difficulty in accessing the airport even though roads were cleared overnight.
Flight cancellations and weather conditions in other cities also contributed to traffic disruptions at Schiphol.
"It's difficult to reach the airport so we give an advice, please take enough time to reach the airport. On the airport itself we have yesterday and today we have about thirty cancellations at departures and mostly they are European destinations, for instance England. England has got a lot of problems with snow, also Paris and also in Germany, so that has also an impact for our flight schedule," Schiphol press officer, Miriam Snoerwang said.
In Amsterdam, streets were still white, but roads and bicycle lanes had been cleaned to ease the flow of road traffic around the capital.
The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) issued a statement warning that more snow was expected to fall in the north of the country, where the precipitation level is expected to reach 10 to 15 cm. The KNMI has issued extreme weather warnings in eight of the country's twelve provinces.
