- Story Text: Haute Couture Paris fashion week kicks off with Julien Fournie's collection for Torrente.
Torrente's fashion show on Monday (19 January) was the first of the 2004 Spring-Summer Haute Couture collections to be presented during the Paris fashion week.
It was also Julien Fournie's first collection for Torrente since the young designer joined the Champs Elysee-based fashion house.
The themes favoured by Fournie did not depart, though, from those so dear to the label's founder, Madame Torrente-Mett, for three decades: femininity and elegance.
Dresses in organza allowed elusive glimpses of the body. Skirts were pencil tight or layered into full ballerina-like shapes. But there was a harder edge to the collection too -- a multi-pocket safari jacket and shorts was worn with a buffalo-skin corset.
Collars were a feature of the collection: knotted into neck ties, asymmetrical, plunging or high. The wildest of the entire collection was the a high purple chiffon collar finished with glass drops for a lavender whalebone tailcoat outfit.
With a Castilian mother and a French father, fashion seems to flow in the Fournie's blood. One set of his grandparents were tanners: his genetic inheritance from them was a taste for fine materials. His grandmother on the other side of the family was a lingerie seamstress and corset maker, who instilled in him the importance of always producing the best possible work. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
