- Story Text: Konrad Thurano could well be the worlds oldest highwire artist - at the age of 91 he still has one show a day, two performances on weekends.
Highwire artist Konrad Thurano currently performs daily at Duesseldorfs Apollo circus along with his son Johannes.
What keeps him going at ninety-one years of age - "When the curtain raises, the music starts playing and the lights go on, you cannot imagine the feeling." he said.
His career began seventy-six years ago when young Konrad was seen doing balancing acts at the local playground in his native Duesseldorf.
Highwire artists from Apollo Circus signed him up for their show and only one week later Thurano was performing in front of an audience for the first time.
Since then he has performed countless times along with his son Johannes and worked for other companies before returning to the Apollo.
After spending several years in South Africa, the Middle East and Las Vegas, Thurano arrived back in Germany some years ago.
Asked for how much longer he plans on staying in the business Thurano is quick to point out, "I still feel pretty good.If its up to me I could go on for a while longer. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
