- Story Text: Around three thousand red haired people gathered in the Dutch city of Breda to pose for the photographers, celebrating a Red Hair day.
The fourth year in a row, artist Bert Rouwenhorst is organizing a Red Hair day.
Bert says he likes people who stand out and thinks Reds are taller and more intelligent than the other humans.
"First of all I like reds, but more than that, I like people who stand out. People who have red hair are different than other people, they are proud of each other, of themselves, but also people that are more intelligent, more creative, more tall for example, I want all people to stand out, that's why I started a Red Hair day," he explained.
Street fashion shows were put up in the city, as fashion designers find Redheads interesting to design for.
"I find it so special, as they have a special skin and special hair colour, so it is interesting for me to find a good colour to go with that would give it an extra look," designer Helmi Baks told Reuters.
Red hair is seen on the heads of less than one percent of the world population, mostly in UK, Ireland and former UK colonies like Australia. The highest percentage of natural Redheads is in Scotland (13%), followed by Ireland (10%).
In the Roman Empire, Redheads slaves were sold for a higher price. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
