- Story Text: A military parade was held in the town of Faya-Largeau in northern Chad on June 7 to celebrate recent military victories over Libya. President Hissene Habre viewed the troops, and pledged to continue his territorial struggle against Libya. Chadian forces captured Faya in March. In his address Habre saluted the victory of his forces in Faya, his own birthplace, saying such victories marked a turning point in the war. The forces of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi have suffered a series of crushing defeats in areas of northern Chad this year. Habre is scheduled to meet with United States (US) President Ronald Reagan on June 19 in Washington for talks focusing on aid to rebuild his war-ravaged country, and buy military equipment.
