- Story Text: U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew met with the President of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi on Monday (April 8) in Frankfurt.
Lew arrived amid tight security at around 1615GMT and was filmed leaving the building about an hour later. No statements were given about the discussions.
Earlier, Lew told EU leaders in Brussels that Europe's economic weakness and financial turmoil affect the U.S. economy, stressing the need to boost demand and move ahead with a euro zone banking union.
Lew's visit also comes shortly after messy negotiations between the euro zone, the International Monetary Fund and Cyprus on a bailout for the Mediterranean island, which in the end forced losses on large Cypriot bank depositors.
He is scheduled to meet German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble on Tuesday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
