- Story Text: Formula E racing teams were preparing their cars on Friday (November 21) for the weekend's big race.
After a thrilling season opener, the second round of the FIA Formula E Championship - the world's first fully electric racing series - takes place on a temporary street circuit in Putrajaya, Malaysia.
The one-day event involves 10 teams and 20 drivers racing fully-electric single-seaters designed to appeal to a new generation of motorsport fans.
Final testing got underway in September in Putrajaya ahead of the Formula E championship race that will see drivers push the latest in electric car technology to the limit.
The race will get underway at 2pm (0600 GMT) with drivers completing 25 laps of a circuit around the Malaysian administrative capital.
During the first season each team will be driving the same type of car, with components supplied by some of the biggest companies in motor sport, including McLaren and Williams.
The race organisers say that by the second season, teams will be able to design and develop their own cars.
While the technology behind Formula E remains relatively new, many leading Formula One legends have already come on board. Four-time Formula One world champion Alain Prost of France is one of those behind the e.Dams-Renault team. His son Nicholas Prost will be in the driver's seat.
Formula E is being angled towards a younger audience than Formula One, has women racers and will race in city centres, over shorter distances and with very different cars.
