  • Story Text: Five couples, all from the United States, married in mid-air over the Atlantic on an Icelandair "Honeymoon Express"
    promotional flight from Baltimore to Reykjavik wearing wedding dresses and tuxedos.
    Five couples celebrated Valentine's Day by marrying in mid-air on a flight from Baltimore to Iceland on Thursday (February 14).
    The couples, are taking advantage of an Icelandair promotion that includes a two-night honeymoon in a top hotel and the chance to take in Iceland's distinctive tourist attractions from stunning scenery to Reykjavik's wild club culture.
    One couple is from New York state, one from Georgia, two from Michigan and one from Maryland. The airline declined to disclose their names.
    The couples arrived at Baltimore/Washington International airport three hours before departure to buy their tickets at $299 (210 pounds) per couple on presentation of a marriage licence, so legally they would be married before boarding.
    There was a reception at the airport with champagne and heart-shaped wedding cakes and music playing, for which they could invite friends and family.
    At the gate the brides received silk bridal bouquets.
    The couples, wearing wedding dresses and tuxedos, boarded last to the strains of the Wedding March from Wagner's Lohengrin ("Here Comes the Bride"), as flight attendants announced the departure of the "Honeymoon Express".
    Flight FI 642 then departed at 8:15 p.m. on Thursday (1:15 p.m. Friday British time).
    Two hours into the flight, the Honourable Robert P.
    Duckworth, Clerk of the Court for Anne Arundel County, performed a civil wedding.
    Three hours later the flight touched down in Iceland on Friday, and the couples transferred to their hotel.
