- Story Text: Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announce members of new cabinet after general election.
A week after a hotly contested poll in Malaysia, Prime Minister Najib Razak on Wednesday (May 5) announced the line up of the new cabinet.
Najib, who was re-elected for the second term, met the country's King in the morning to get consent on the list of 24 ministries with 30 ministers and 27 deputies.
"I would say this is a very capable cabinet that can continue and achieve the transformation agenda of the country. And it will definitely gain the trust of our people," said Najib during a news conference.
"The new cabinet will emphasis to tackle integrity issues and corruption," he added.
The members of cabinet included experienced ministers and younger faces as well as technocrats and civil society representatives who will bring substantial experience from outside government, said Najib.
Najib's Barisan Nasional (BN) retained in power despite its worst-ever electoral performance.
Barisan won 133 seats in the 222-member parliament, but only 47 percent of the popular vote, compared to the opposition's 50 percent. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
