Unemployment will pass the 16 percent. This is a situation we cannot hide. There is no hope -- there is no hope in the horizon and there is no stability." - Story Text: Troika representatives met with Portuguese MP's in Lisbon on Thursday (November 15) for their quarterly review.
After the meeting, Troika representatives left and MP's gave their testimonials about their first meeting on the sixth regular assessment.
Basilio Horta of the opposition party said the situation is hopeless.
"For 2013 the revenue will be the same as in 2012 and the effects will also be the same, or maybe even worse. First they said there would be a growth in the recession -- but there wasn't, then there was the talk of stagnation, then there is the talk about 1.6 percent recession and some agencies talk about a two percent recession. Unemployment will pass the 16 percent. This is a situation we cannot hide. There is no hope -- there is no hope in the horizon and there is no stability."
Portugal's unemployment rate reached a new record of 15.8 percent in the third quarter from 15 percent in the previous three-month period as the bailed out country's recession deepened, official data showed on Wednesday (November 14).
Miguel Frasquilho of the ruling party gave positive feedback on the unemployment situation.
"We received from Troika very positive feedback on the running of the economy and to support investments as well as the growth and creation of new work opportunities," he said.
Troika members also met the main financial groups in Portugal on Tuesday (November 13) for the sixth evaluation of the Financial and Economic Adjustment Program. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
