- Story Text: Leader of Greece's far right LAOS party George Karatzaferis stressed parties must find a resolution to the formation of a new government.
Karatzaferis said a loss of momentum in talks would contribute to risking the country's image internationally and called to hold meetings with the two main leaders.
"It is a difficult birth and the baby is at risk. In order for it to be saved immediate intervention is required. And intermediate intervention means that Antonis Samaras, George Papandreou and I meet in order to find the correct composition and the most appropriate prime minister," Karatzaferis told reporters as he was leaving his party headquarters in Athens on his way to parliament.
"As long as they keep discussing, the more time is lost, the more Europe will be making fun of us, the more Greeks will feel insecure. These situations need clear decisions, if Samaras is waiting to hear what his 80 deputies will say, if Papandreou is waiting to hear what his 150 deputies will say, then we will be here all night. If they have the motivation then this should be solved, otherwise it is headed for ruin," he added.
Earlier at parliament, where talks are taking place, Karatzaferis was seen speaking with socialist party deputies outside before entering.
Greek party leaders spent another night trying to agree on a new coalition government after two days of negotiations but still with no outcome.
Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou and opposition leader Antonis Samaras were wrangling over the next caretaker prime minister and ministers as the the European Union called for a swift resolution.
Sources at both the socialist and conservative parties said negotiations on getting former European Central Bank vice President Lucas Papademos to head the interim government were being concluded, although details still had to be ironed out. There was no word on whether Papademos, a Greek economist who is well known in European capitals, would accept the job. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
