Summary:A memorial to the late Senator Robert Taft, Republican representative for Ohio, was dedicated at Washington DC on April 14 1959. Robert Alphonso Taft, the son of William Howard Taft - 27th President of the USA - was elected to the Senate in 1938 and by 1939 had become the Republican leader of the house. He died July 31 1953.The memorial, a hundred-foot shaft of white marble housing a carillon, was build by public subscription.
