- Story Text: More than 100 monks welcome sacred Buddha relic as it arrives in Hong Kong for exhibition.
The sacred Buddha's Finger Relic and other Chinese national treasures were flown into Hong Kong from Beijing on Tuesday (May 25) for a 10-day exhibition in the territory.
More than 100 monks gathered at Hong Kong International Airport to welcome the treasures with a religious ritual.
The holy relic will be displayed from Wednesday (May 26) at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre for 10 days.
Airport workers had to cautiously unload the holy relic which is held in a bullet-proof glass box before it was transported to the exhibition venue under heavy security.
An opening ceremony for the reverence and blessing of the holy relic will be conducted by Madam Liu Yandong (pron: leew-yan-dong), a senior Communist Party official from Beijing.
The relic was discovered by workers while cleaning an old temple in the central Chinese city of Xi-an (pron: see-ann) in 1987. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
