- Story Text: Friday (October 14) prayers in mosques across Pakistan saw Muslims pray for the victims of the devastating 7.6 magnitude earthquake last Saturday (October 8) that killed tens of thousands and levelled thousands of homes. Around a hundred followers crowded into one of the biggest mosque of the country, Faisal mosque, in the capital Islamabad to pay their respects. "We should gather around and make a prayer for all Muslims who died in this like damage, earthquake" said Abid Hussain after he had finished praying. The chances of finding any more people alive in the rubble of the region's capital, Muzaffarabad, and outlying villages are disappearing fast. The strength and speed of Saturday's earthquake had made it much more severe than other recent big quakes such as one in Turkey and one in India. The official death toll of 25,000 in Pakistani Kashmir is expected to rise. Some local officials and politicians say deaths could exceed 40,000. More than 50,000 were injured.
