- Story Text: Six coal miners and a doctor were found dead on Thursday (July 12) in the Degari area in Pakistan's south-western Baluchistan province, about 100 km east of the provincial capital Quetta, officials said.
The victims were kidnapped last week from the Marwar coalfield, and had multiple bullet wounds.
The bodies were brought to a charity morgue in Quetta for onward dispatch to the home towns of the victims.
"These are seven dead bodies which have been brought to us from the Marwar area. We are giving them Ghusl (ritualistic Muslim washing of the dead before burial) at Edhi Centre," said Abdul Qayyum who is in charge of the Edhi charity.
Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf strongly condemned the kidnapping and murder of the mine workers, his office said in a statement.
Much of the violence in Baluchistan, Pakistan's biggest but poorest province, has been blamed on ethnic Baluch separatists, who are fighting a protracted insurgency, demanding more autonomy and control over the natural resources of the province.
Militants loyal to al Qaeda and the Taliban are also active in Baluchistan, which borders Iran and Afghanistan. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
