- Story Text: Young Kyrgyz dancers gathered in the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek to showcase their skills in traditional dance. Six teams took part in the contest called "Biy Battle".
"The main objective of this event, as you can see yourselves is to restore the forgotten Kyrgyz tradition of ethnic dance. That is why the contest title - "Biy Battle" (dance battle) - combines traditional Kyrgyz word (Biy - dance) with the modern word (Battle)," explained the contest's title its organiser Samara Sagynbayeva.
With the first sounds of ethnic music, competitors dressed in traditional costumes and Kyrgyz woolen hats went on stage and the show began.
The competition included pair and group dance. The audience cheered and applauded loudly as the group of girls in white suits, holding Kyrgyz flags appeared on stage.
Later the contest participants were joined by audience members and the "Dance battle" evolved into a dance party.
Members of the jury who were closely watching the teems' performance gradually started to clap and move to the music together with the public.
The teems called "Jazz" and "Sanjyra" shared the first place, however the presenter said, that 'friendship is the winner' before announcing the results. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
