The SCO heads of state - Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Uzbek President Islam Karimov, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon and Kyrgyzstan President Roza Otunbayeva - assembled before talks for a family photo.
Joining the summit this year were the leaders of nations invited as observers to the SCO summit, including Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
In addition to the plenary sessions, leaders were also expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit.
The 10th SCO summit also marks Beijing's assumption of the rotating chairmanship of the organization to China.
The Shanghai group is named after the Chinese city where it was founded. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
