- Story Text: Lauren Bacall stars alongside French movie legend Alain Delon in her first French film "Le Jour et La Nuit" ("Day and Night").
The film, by renowned French director Bernard-Henri Levy, opened in Paris on Friday (February 14).
Speaking alongside her costars and Levy, Bacall said she had dreamed of being in a French film and found a wonderful chemistry working with Delon.
"He (Levy) convinced me to do it becuase he's very handsome, very intelligent and has lots of talent," Bacall said at a discussion of the film sponsored by a French electronics store.
"This is my first French film. It's a dream for me to be in a French film." The film also stars Arielle Domsbale and Karl Zero.
A co-production of Les Films du Lendemain (Paris), Nomad Films (Brussels), Cinemaginaire (Montreal) and Cartel (Madrid), "Le Jour et La Nuit" was filmed in Mexico in May last year.
Delon plays Alexandre, a writer who has lost his inspiration and retired to a hacienda in Mexico.
A young producer, Filippi (Karl Zero), wants to bring Alexandre's first book, which over the years has become a cult classic, to the screen.
He has chosen a beautiful actress, Laure (played by Arielle Dombasle, Bernard-Henri Levy's wife), who goes to Alexandre to get permission to shoot the film.
Laure will play the role of Alexandre's one true love, Sonia, played by Lauren Bacall.
Sonia has lived in Mexico for 20 years. Alexandre is used to his life of seclusion, interested in passing his time with women, boxing, hot air balloons and Indian folklore.
The intrusion into his life by his past seems to amuse his new friends, the Mexicans with whom he lives.
Levy wrote the script with Jean-Paul Enthoven. The central theme of the film is whether or not Alexandre can start a new life, finally coming to terms with the life he left behind. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
