- Story Text: France will be "very aggressive" over climate change, the government's spokesman said on Wednesday (May 31) moments before U.S. media announced that President Donald Trump had decided to withdraw from 2015's Paris climate agreement.
Under the agreement negotiated under previous president Barack Obama, the United States had agreed to reduce its emissions by 26 to 28 percent from 2005 levels by 2025.
But the Axios news outlet said on Wednesday that Trump, who has previously called global warming a hoax, plans to pullout.
Relaying comments made by French President Emmanuel Macron during a French cabinet meeting before the reports surfaced, spokesman Christophe Castaner said "We will have to be very aggressive to make France the homeland of climate change." - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
