00.53.48 INTERVIEW: BARRY POVER [CHIEF ENGINEER] HOLDING MODEL PLANE IN HAND...there is no experience like it in the world. The kick in the ass is unbelievable. My first experience of a lightning flight was in Saudi Arabia where...I was flying with a British pilot...
00.54.16 ...we taxied behind a 737...rolled down the runway a 140 knots nose up; before you know it it so quick right vertical roll off the top and the pilot said to me now look down and watch the 737 - we were 40000 feet and the 737 was still struggling away. The power of this airplane is awesome...
00.55.13 ...my dream is to have a civilian certified airworthy flying lightning - anywhere in the world I don't care where it actually happens...
00.56.01 re: CONSERVATION OF CLASSIC JET PLANES = UNIQUE - WANTS TO KEEP THEM IN AIRWORTHY CONDITION
00.56.32 ...our aim is to maintain as many classic jet arcraft as possible in airworthy flyable condition & continue to fly them as long as resources allow as to do that. Now as far as the lightning is concerned, I have available a phenomanal inventory...we only have 4...
00.57.18 ...there's actually nothing else, even today, faster in the climb than this particular airplane. Even the Royal Air Force in England don't have it with the Tornado and if a F15 can't catch it in vertical climb up to 35000 feet...late 40 early 50's technology and still in 1996; there are very few modern day planes that can actually catch this beast and he is a beats; there's no doubt about it....
00.59.10 re: TOURIST THING? It's a very responsible job; someone should not undertake this lightly...
01.00.07 ...I actually believe that this is the only country that has forward thinking & are forward looking to be able to allow this to happen; other countries...Eastern block countries are attempting to do that with the MIG 29 and I don't think with the same panache as Mike does it here in SA...

01.03.00 REAX. NORA HYLAND [WELGEMOED] TOURIST CHOPPER FLIGHT It was absolutely wonderful magnificent...the best part was approaching the rocks and thinking you're going to go into the rocks at the top of the mountian & coming down is very exciting too and what I really enjoyed was that it really gives you an idea of Cape Town...
01.03.29 ...I'll definitely go again...
01.03.30 LEON HUISAMEN TOURIST I think it's a great I think it was the quickest 20' of my life; I really enjoyed seeing the city & just realizing how beuatiful it is...it's just amazing & breathtaking especially flying over the mountain, coming through that little saddle; it was quite thrilling.
01.04.13 ...it was scary coming up to the mountain and then sort approaching it so close..thrilling actually and coming to that saddle and suddenly finding there's nothing underneath you...
01.04.31 DEZ HUISAMEN [LESOTHO] I was a fixed wing pilot...what I was particularly struck by was the amount of damage that seems to be done on the mountain by all the foot paths; I was surprised to see so many foot paths...
01.05.09 ...it lends itself to being the holiday city in the world I would say...
01.05.27 ...it's a ovely sensation...
01.06.19 CHOPPER WARMING UP
01.07.50 JAMES BLOMERUS [CIVAIR] We probably have about 3/400 tourists a month; the thing that they are looking forward the most is seeing the top of Table Mountain and the thing they get most wild about is coming over the mountain low level and then popping out over this beautiful 3000 foot drop basically highlight of the tour...
01.08.25 ...we surprise them by coming up the back of the mountain low level and then popping right over the city. This 3000 foot drop which just drops below your feet and the people going "WoW! they get off the helicopter and that's all they can talk about. it's defnitely the highlight of a trip.
