- Story Text: People like coffee and people love cats so Chileans in capital Santiago are enjoying the popular cat cafe concept.
Dali World, Cat Cafe, located in the Nunoa neighbourhood, is cashing in on an idea first popularised in Japan and then developed in Europe and the United States, to allow stressed-out workers to wind down by stroking a cat while sipping a cappuccino or latte - or tea, if you prefer.
The idea is that people will fall in love with the cats, while they visit the cafe and will want to take them home.
Four-year-old Victoria's wishes were met when her mother agreed to adopt Mimi and Apollo from the cafe.
Cafe visitors are unable to visit with their own cats so as to not cause "territorial" problems with those already living there.
Every three months, cats rescued from the street are brought into the cafe, giving them an opportunity to be adopted. The potential adopting feline-parents are strictly screened.
Delicious vegetarian food is also served at the premises, prepared in a separate room to where cats roam, together with diverse cat-care articles.
The cafe operates together with the "Fundacion Club Gatero" (Cat Club Foundation) and has four founding partners, one of whom is Carolina Corral. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
