- Story Text: Journalists and moviegoers were evacuated from the Palais Des Festivals on Saturday (May 20) following a security alert at the Cannes Film Festival.
A press officer for the City of Cannes explained to Reuters that there was a suspect package inside the Debussy cinema, one of the theatres the festival screens in.
The police headquarters told Reuters it was a false alert, while a security person at the gate confirmed there was an alert but had finished.
Some fans were frustrated with being made to wait outside and with a lack of information about what was going on.
Ex US- vice president Al Gore, who was in Cannes to promote his latest environmental documentary, was seen leaving the Palais shortly after the alert was declared over. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
