- Story Text: Polish scientists at the Institute of Paper-making and Printing at the Lodz University of Technology have developed and patented new paper-forming technology.
The first batch of produced paper at first glance is no different than ordinary paper. Differences can be seen only under a microscope or in the future with a special scanner. Besides this security elements will be totally invisible - even under UV-light.
That's because the paper's security elements are also included in the make-up of its structure. There is no way to distinguish which elements are for security and which are only for keeping the paper's form.
"Consequently, in contrast to other security features of special-purpose ink-type paper, the protection here is in the material itself, so it is actually the strongest protection, as is the watermark in banknotes," institute director Konrad Olejnik told Reuters.
The paper, which the Polish scientists believe will be impossible to falsify, continues to pass numerous tests for durability and is still undergoing further tests. Scientists believe in the future that its uses can be as wide as customers' imaginations. Each paper roll or even single piece of paper can contain their own "code" meaning the possibilities are endless.
Olejnik particularly sees large corporations using the paper to control paperwork flow and ensure documents' originality. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
