- Story Text: The Greek government said on Friday (July 21) the situation on the island of Kos was normalizing after a deadly quake killed two, and appealed to visitors to continue to come to the island.
Government ministers said infrastructure checks were taking place throughout the island, and the airport was functioning normally. The island's port however remained out of action, with ships unable to dock due to major damages, and ferries were being re-routed to other islands.
Greek government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said 80 people had been admitted to hospitals throughout the day. The Greek health ministry later upped that number to 115. Only 12 remained at hospitals in Kos, Crete and Athens, in serious condition.
EU External Affairs Commissioner Federica Mogherini said the European Union had mobilized the "instruments" necessary in the case that Greece needed assistance, and expressed her personal condolences. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
