- Story Text: South Korea's Defence Minister Song Young-moo said on Saturday (July 29) Seoul would prepare independent measures to curb North Korea's nuclear threat after the North test-launched another intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).
South Korea said it will proceed with the deployment of four additional units of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) anti-missile defense system. The deployment of the THAAD units had been delayed after the initial two units, after South Korean President Moon Jae-in ordered an environmental assessment.
Earlier in the day, South Korea and U.S. military staged a joint ballistic missile exercise in response to a missile launch by North Korea.
North Korea fired the missile late on Friday (July 28). Experts said it was capable of reaching cities in the United States, and U.S. and South Korean military officials responded by discussing military options. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
