- Story Text: Italian coastguards escorted a humanitarian ship into the Sicilian port of Trapani on Friday (August 4) to be investigated over alleged aiding of illegal immigration from Libya.
Iuventa, the German Non-government organisation (NGO) vessel, was seized by Italian authorities on Wednesday (August 2) amidst suspicion over the role NGO's are playing in picking up migrants off the Libyan coast.
The NGO that runs the ship, Jugend Rettet, denied any cooperation with migrants' smugglers, whose activities, they said, they condemn on moral grounds.
Meanwhile, another NGO ship, Vos Hestia, run by Save the Children, landed more than 320 migrants, mostly Eritreans, in the Sicilian port of Augusta.
The ship was also carrying the bodies of 8 migrants who were found dead on a dinghy at the time of the rescue at sea. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
