- Story Text: A large full moon at its peak hovered over an ancient Greek temple on Athens' southern coast on Monday (August 7) as a partial lunar eclipse took place.
The full moon is best seen at the Poseidon Temple in Cape Sounion, which is named after the ancient Greek mythological god of the sea. The large bright orange moon cast its light over the sea below.
The August full moon is often referred to as a "Sturgeon" moon, named after the fish by native American tribes, who found the fish easier to catch at the time.
Crowds that had gathered at the temple to see the moon also got a special treat as a partial lunar eclipse was also visible in the night sky. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
