Kenyans queued in large numbers through fields and along pavements early on Tuesday (August 8) to vote in the latest electoral showdown between the country's main political dynasties.
Voters said they did not have any major complaints about the process so far but that there had been some frustrating delays.
Shrouded in fears of violence, the close-fought clash pits President Uhuru Kenyatta against Raila Odinga, a former political prisoner.
Former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry, heading the U.S. election observer mission said voters were taking the election "very very seriously".
The government has deployed more than 150,000 security personnel, including wildlife rangers, to protect 41,000 polling stations. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
