- Story Text: Rome dimmed the arches of its ancient Colosseum on Friday evening (August 18) as a mark of respect for those killed and injured during terror attacks in Barcelona and a Catalan seaside resort.
Once a place of bloody gladiatorial battles, the ancient amphitheatre is now often used as a beacon of peace and reconciliation with it's lights turned off as a symbol of unification with the suffering of others.
The famous landmark was thrown into darkness for thirty minutes along with the Trevi fountain and the capital's town hall. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
