Summary:One hundred and twenty-five years of German railways were celebrated on December 8 1960, in Nuremberg. A replica of the first-ever locomotive, made by the British pioneer George Stephenson, was taken on a six kilometre run - with some 200,000 sightseers lining the route. Stephenson sold the original engine - called the Adler, or Eagle - to the German railway in 1835.
