- Story Text: Indonesian President Joko Widodo expresses his regret regarding the Rohingya crisis and "condemns" the violence taking place in Myanmar's Rakhine State against the country's ethnic Muslim community.
The conflict, which affects the nation's 1.1 million Rohingya population, is the biggest challenge facing leader Aung San Suu Kyi, accused by Western critics of not speaking out for the minority that has long complained of persecution.
Widodo also addresses Indonesia's diplomatic measures in interfering with the conflict, including meetings with the UN advisory commission for the Rohingya state and a dialogue with the Myanmar government, as well as food and medical aid.
Indonesia, home to the world's biggest Muslim population, has vocally urged its government to halt violence against Rohingya Muslims.
On Sunday (September 3) a petrol bomb was thrown into the Myanmar embassy in the early morning hours against the backdrop of mounting anger in Indonesia over violence against Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
