- Story Text: INTRODUCTION: The Dutch football team Ajax of Amsterdam has won the first of two matches scheduled for its current Asian tour. Ajax three times European champions, beat Seiko 5-4 in Hong Kong on Sunday (22 February). The Dutch side included seven internationals.
SYNOPSIS: Seiko, wearing blue, kicked off. It was not long before the Dutch team control of play and scored the first of five goals. But hew home team rallied and equalised before half time.
The Hong Kong team launched a strong attack and soon had Ajax reeling. The keeper made one save but the ball was propelled back across the line.
Early in the second half, Ajax re-asserted themselves. After kick-off, the Dutch players launched a strong attack down the left wing that had Seiko scurrying to patch up their defences. A centreing kick as well placed, and an Ajax forward delivered a hard, low, right-footed kick from eighteen-yards away that sent the ball into the side of the net.
Shortly afterwards Ajax scored again. Again it was a well placed cross that landed conveniently for an Ajax attacker. The high ball slid under the crossbar and found the back of the net.
Seiko countered with an impressive display of football individualism to put them back in the game.
A crucial mistake by Ajax moments later nearly cost the Dutchmen the game. Seiko delivered a corner right across the goal mouth... but it was a Dutch head that connected and the ball went into his own goal.
But in the final stages the Dutch side rallied. Another attack built up and yet another cross found its target. An Ajax forward caught the ball on the turn, and his goal put the game beyond doubt. The touring side goes on to play the Indonesian national team in Jakarta on Thursday (26 February). The final score again: Ajax 5 - Seiko 4.
