- Story Text: World number one Jansher Khan won his eighth Hong Kong Open squash title on Sunday (August 31) in a final marred by accusations of unfair play by his opponent.
Top seed Jansher Khan, from Pakistan, beat Canada's fourth seed Jonathon Power 14-15, 15-12, 15-7, 15-2 at the Hong Kong Indoors Games Hall.
It was a stop-start, ill-tempered final. Both players were at odds with referee Chris Clark, and the number of "lets" called may well have equalled the number of points played in the 64-minute contest.
Power accused Jansher of taking advantage of the rules to block his opponent when he was unable to reach the ball, forcing the referee to call a "let", or replay of the point.
Jansher, however, dismissed the accusations, saying players used it as an excuse when they lost to him.
But despite the accusations, Jansher's shot selection and court awareness proved too much for Power.
It was a decade ago that Jansher won his first Hong Kong Open, which included his first of many victories over his legendary compatriot Jahangir Khan.
Jansher Khan has now won 82 major titles, and he plans to return to defend his title, as part of his ambition to win every major tournament at least 10 or 11 times. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
