- Story Text: Boxing promoter, Bob Arum of the United States, has been talking to reporters about the controversial signing of two white South African heavyweights to fight tin an elimination series for the world title. Arum -- who says he expects Muhammad Ali to relinquish the World Boxing Association crown in May -- told journalists in Johannesburg on Tuesday (6 February) he has finally signed up Gerrie Coetzee and Kallie Knoetze. What he is proposing is a four-man elimination series involving the two South African,s former title holder Leon Spinks of the United States, and the winner of all American bout between John Tate and Duane Bobick, scheduled for later this month (February). The move will be unpopular with many American fight fans. Public pressure caused Kallie Konetze's visa to be revoked just before his planned fight with Billy Sharkey in Miami last month because during his time as a policeman in Pretoria, he shot a black youth who later had his leg amputated. The youth was later acquitted of all six charges brought against him. The fight did take place in the end with Knoetze winning by a knockout in the fourth.
SYNOPSIS: Both South Africans are impressive fighters. This is Knoetze defeating Britain's black hope, Denton Ruddock, in July last year.
Here Coetzee, in the darker shorts and with a moustache, takes care of U.S. heavyweight Ibar Dale Arringtor in December last year. there is little doubt who is the better fighter here.
Arum told reporters what he plans to do and what problems he envisages.
