- Story Text:Heartbreak in the streets of Jojutla on Sunday (September 24) as residents abandoned homes and business owners closed up shop, as the town near the epicentre of Tuesday's (September 19) deadly quake take stock of the devastation.
More than 100 buildings collapsed in this small town. The epicentre originated less than 50 km (30 miles) from Jojutla. The situation in this region is one of the most critical, with at least 16 people killed in Jojutla alone. So far, 77 deaths have been registered in Morelos state alone, according to state authorities.
Residents have taken to a shelter in the town where donations from people across the country have been delivered. But for the long term there is an urgent need to reconstruct, as residents have nowhere to go.
According to local media, 10,000 homes have structural damage in Morelos state the state, but no official census has yet been made. The national death toll from Mexico's quake currently stands at 319. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
