- Story Text: Throngs of Mexicans woke up early Friday (November 17) morning to get the best shopping deals during the country's "El Buen Fin" campaign.
Customers hope to snag reduced prices, particularly on televisions, computers, cell phones, video games and household items.
Many credit cards also promote the event by offering 12 to 18 months of interest-free payments on purchases made this weekend.
El Buen Fin, which takes place this year from November 17 to 20, is a campaign designed to boost consumer spending launched in 2011 with government and private sector support.
It is modelled on the United States' "Black Friday," which is the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday in November that attracts shoppers with discounts before the gift-giving Christmas holiday.
Mexico's economy is expected to slow this year, according to the International Monetary Fund that predicted 2.1 percent growth in 2017, slowing to 1.9 percent next year. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
