- Date: 23rd November 2017
- Summary: BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA (NOVEMBER 22, 2017) (REUTERS) (SOUNDBITE) (English) BRITISH PRIMATOLOGIST, DR. JANE GOODALL, SAYING: "It's terribly important to create corridors, so that you don't trap animals, and that's not easy. And there's this one instance where the Chinese have made an extraordinary elevated railway and they've left all this space underneath, because, you know, they've got great engineers. And, so we always think about China: oh, China's destroying the - you know - China this, and China that. But, they're not doing anything worse than we've done. And I think, you know, I'm British, so the British colonialism, what did we do? We went overseas, we raped their natural resources, and we brought them back to develop and make money ourselves, leaving the people poorer. Big corporations are very often doing exactly the same. And, China is beginning to turn around and use a lot of its wealth to help the environment. They're doing some incredible things that, I think, most people don't know about. And, I think they're leading the push for clean, green energy, and taking the lead now that America has backed out of the Paris Agreement."

- Story Text: Famed British primatologist and conservationist Jane Goodall is in Argentina for the closing of a world tour to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Jane Goodall Institute.
The Jane Goodall Institute continues to carry out the decades-long scientific study of chimpanzees begun by Goodall in Tanzania and raises funds to protect chimps and their habitats.
Speaking about Latin America, Goodall said, "I think that the problems involving the environment in Latin America are very much the same as those in many other countries, and of course fighting corruption is one, and that's unfortunately pervasive all over the world."
Goodall also addressed climate change, saying that "it's affecting all of us," and she stated that China is, "leading the push for clean, green energy, and taking the lead now that America has backed out of the Paris Agreement."
Goodall will be in Argentina for a series of events from November 22 to 25. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
