- Story Text: A food delivery service in Istanbul connects working professionals with mothers who are selling extra dishes from the meal they cook for their families.
"If you're missing mom's food you are in the right place" the food delivery service, Mamame, tells its customers. The online company delivers fresh home-cooked meals to hungry workers. Mamame targets more than 4 million busy professionals in Istanbul who yearn for their mom's food and cannot find time to cook themselves.
Fifty-five year old Gulveren Gundogan is one of 75 mothers working with the new food delivery site.
Gulveren, who sells extra dishes she cooks for her family, says she was encouraged to get into business by her daughter.
For the mothers, who usually work from two to four days a week, this is a chance to make extra cash only by putting a few more pots on the stove.
Customers say most of the time they receive little treats and notes from the mothers who enjoy being appreciated for their food.
"We are literally eating a mother's meals," says a 43-year old foreign trade consultant, Ayten Kenar, who is a regular customer of the delivery service. Kenar says the service is "a big support" for working women.
Founders of the home-cooked food delivery service want to expand it to Europe, beginning with Berlin and London, where they hope to connect with a large Turkish population. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
