- Story Text:Families usually want to stay home during the Christmas season as they await the arrival of Santa Claus. But the residents of Bogota are coming out to see an illuminated Christmas train pass through the Colombian capital.
Four hundred metres- (1,312 feet-) long, and comprised of 14 train cars, the lit-up locomotive makes use of travel infrastructure that has been out of use in Bogota for more than three decades.
It can carry 600 tourists at a time. Around a quarter are usually foreigners.
A Santa Claus can be expected to pass through the cars as that train is in transit.
Many passengers come out smart phone in hand to take family photos.
"It's an excellent experience. My son has been asking me for a year and a half for me to take him on this. I am coming from Medellin. I came at 8 in the morning so that he can fulfill his dream of getting on the Christmas train," said Colombian tourist, Karim Halabi.
The train follows a route in the South American capital that leads to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira (Catedral de Sal Zipaquira). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
