- Story Text: The Tokyo Stock Exchange began its first trading day of the year on Thursday (January 4) after a ceremony joined by Finance Minister Taro Aso and women in traditional Japanese kimonos.
The Nikkei 225 stock market opened at 23,073.73 points, up more than 300 points since its closing last year.
Akira Kiyota, the group chief executive officer of Japan Exchange Group, Inc., told guests at the ceremony that 2018 is the year of the dog according to the Chinese zodiac signs, and hence will bring good fortune to Japan's stock market. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
