It's just a franchise that people have so much affection for and you can't help from the moment that you watch it you're complete invested in those characters and you really care about them and I hope we have the same in 'Rogue One'." VARIOUS OF FELICITY JONES TALKING TO REPORTERS (SOUNDBITE) (English) ACTRESS, FELICITY JONES, SAYING: "Jyn is incredibly independent. She can be tough when she needs to be but she has, I hope, great humanity as well at the same time and someone who throughout the film finds a cause and finds those leadership qualities inside of her." One - Gareth created a film where he shot very gritty, that had a lot of handheld movements in it that made it really personal and intimate, you know? So, it made more intense and I think this question of characters who have a little more, like we live more in a duality. There's a question of light and darkness and which one. But, in this case they're characters who've made a decision and that's where they'll stay and that's in the grey." We were all fans and we all had goosebump moments. And then what's weird is you also, you can't help it, you work with Stormtroopers all day and it becomes normal and after about five days of shouting at Stormtroopers, "No, to the left, to the left, to the left, get the Stormtrooper out of the way!" Suddenly, you go I'm shouting at a Stormtrooper this is the dream, why am I getting upset? And it has to become normal or else you can't function." - Story Text: Scores of 'Star Wars' fans gathered at the ExCel Arena in London on Friday (July 15) to celebrate the upcoming release of 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'.
The Gareth Edwards directed film follows a group of rebels on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star.
Felicity Jones' Jyn Erso acts as one of their key leaders alongside the likes of Forest Whitaker's Saw Gerrera and Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor.
If they succeed in their quest it will give the Rebel Alliance a critical piece of information to destroy the Death Star and help in their fight against the Galactic Empire.
"Jyn is incredibly independent. She can be tough when she needs to be but she has, I hope, great humanity as well at the same time and someone who throughout the film finds a cause and finds those leadership qualities inside of her," said Jones.
'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' is the first ever 'Star Wars' standalone film to hit the big screen.
Many of the actors from the film, speaking at the Rogue One panel event, commented on how gritty the film felt, which perhaps sets it apart from other 'Star Wars' films.
"There's two things. One - Gareth created a film where he shot very gritty, that had a lot of handheld movements in it that made it really personal and intimate, you know? So, it made more intense and I think this question of characters who have a little more, like we live more in a duality. There's a question of light and darkness and which one. But, in this case they're characters who've made a decision and that's where they'll stay and that's in the grey," said Whitaker.
Ben Mendelsohn plays Orson Krennic, one of the key villains in the film, and he joked that he did not want to compare his character to other great villains from Disney movies.
"I wouldn't know where to rank him in the parthenon of Disney villains. I think it's probably too early and it would be an act of foolishness on my part to try to nail that down too much. That's more for...we'll see where he falls in all that....Well, you know, he's just misunderstood. That's what I think," he said.
Fans who attended the panel event also caught a glimpse of one of cinema's most iconic villains, Darth Vader, at the end of a new trailer and heard his recognisable heavy, mechanical breathing.
James Earl Jones, who voiced Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy, has also returned.
A new poster was released for the film, showing rebels fighting against Stormtroopers on a tropical beach on the planet Scarif with the Death Star looming in the sky overhead.
