SCU (SOUNDBITE)(Arabic) EGYPTIAN PRESIDENT HOSNI MUBARAK SAYING "I have met with (Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon) Peres who delivered to me a message from Israel's Prime Minister and I was told that starting from today, they will carry some measures to ease the blockade of Palestinians. Also, they agreed on a ceasefire from both sides. After the ceasefire, negotiations will start and they will see a solution for this situation we have been witnessing, this will give hope for having stability. Also, it will give hope to secure all civilians, Palestinians and Israelis." 1.12 (W4) CAIRO, EGYPT (APRIL 29, 2001) (REUTERS) 8. SMV, PHOTOGRAPHERS 1.15 9. SCU (SOUNDBITE) (English) EGYPTIAN FOREIGN MINISTER AMR MOUSSA SAYING "So the discussions were very important. After we heard what Mr Peres had to say about the intentions to open up the closure around and in the West Bank and Gaza, after what we heard about the desire for, and the work for, a ceasefire the two parties agreed on a ceasefire and move ahead towards the political negotiations through a certain process under conditions of no fire by either party -- we have become interested to follow whether this would be implementable and soon, if this is the case, then we can maintain some hope." 2.22 11. WIDE OF PRESS CONFERENCE 2.27 12. SCU (SOUNDBITE) (English) ISRAELI FOREIGN MINISTER SHIMON PERES, SAYING "Clearly, the first thing on the agenda as far as we are concerned is the end of fire, terror, violence. It is impossible to negotiate when there are shootings and bombings in the streets and the borders and I think on that we made an understanding. And we can hope to negotiate once a period of time has passed through, or over, that will permit us to return to the negotiating table. On the other hand we must pay attention to the situation and mood of the Palestinian people in the territories. We don't want them to suffer. We don't want them to pay a price because of terror and violence. It is because of it that I have informed the (Egyptian) President and the (Egyptian) Foreign Minister on behalf of the Israeli government, on behalf of the (Israeli) Prime Minister, on behalf of the (Israeli) Minister of Defence, that from this morning we are going to take steps, immediate steps, unconditional steps, to facilitate the life of the people in the territories in every possible way. We do it unconditionally." 3.45 13. SCU REPORTER TAKING NOTES 3.48 14. WIDE OF MOUSSA AND PERES LEAVING NEWS CONFERENCE. 3.54 (W5) RAMALLAH, WEST BANK (APRIL 29, 2001) (REUTERS) 15.
