- Story Text: Morgan Freeman, the versatile actor known for playing gods, presidents and pimps, was honored with the 2017 lifetime achievement award by the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) at its annual ceremony on Sunday (January 21).
Backstage after the show, Freeman joked that he hoped the award didn't mean "get off the stage, you're done."
Britain's Gary Oldman won the best actor award for playing wartime leader Winston Churchill in Focus Features' "Darkest Hour."
The SAG awards are indicators of likely Oscar success in March because actors form the largest group of voters in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. - Copyright Holder: POOL (CAN SELL)
