NEW ZEALAND: SHATTERED ALL BLACK RUGBY UNION TEAM RETURN AFTER THE WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT IN WALES
- Title: NEW ZEALAND: SHATTERED ALL BLACK RUGBY UNION TEAM RETURN AFTER THE WORLD CUP TOURNAMENT IN WALES
- Date: 9th November 1999
- Summary: AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND (NOVEMBER 9, 1999) (TV3 - NO ACCESS NEW ZEALAND) 1. PRIME MINISTER JENNY SHIPLEY GREETING TEAM MEMBERS ARRIVING BACK IN NEW ZEALAND/SHAKING HANDS WITH VARIOUS TEAM MEMBERS 2. MORE OF TEAM COMING THROUGH AND PEOPLE CHEERING 3. COACH JOHN HART WITH NEW ZEALAND PRIME MINISTER/HART SHAKING HANDS WITH WELL-WISHERS/RECEIVING BOUQUET OF FLOWERS 4. SOUNDBITE (English) CHRISTIAN CULLEN, ALL BLACKS PLAYER: "It's great, I didn't really expect it, it's awesome, they're still behind us, awesome." REPORTERS ASKS WHAT THE TEAM COULD HAVE DONE BETTER: "We could have played better for 30 minutes against the French, that's when they blew us apart, maybe we weren't ready for it, but I mean you can't do anything about it now, now we just have to wait another four years." 5. SOUNDBITE (English) COACH JOHN HART SAYING: "You know I think people lining up for it have to understand what the job is, I got asked what attributes people require to be the All Blacks coach, and I think the most important attribute is to understand the job, that's it not just coaching the team, there's a whole lot of peripheral expectations and activity and responsibility which is a great challenge and all I can say is I've been honoured to coach the All Blacks, I do not regret anything that's happened other than possibly 30 minutes against France." 6. CUTAWAY 7. SOUNDBITE (English) JOHN HART SAYING: "I've worked very, very hard, it's very easy for people on the outside to criticise, you know I heard a statement from supposedly one of our greater All Blacks, saying we've done nothing for the All Blacks culture in the last four years, I didn't hear him saying that after we beat England, and you know it's remarkable how people can turn in the face of a loss and we've got start looking at ourselves in this regards." 8. FANS WAITING AT AIRPORT 9. SOUNDBITE (English) FAN SAYING: "Who cares if they lost? The thing is everybody takes it for granted, they spent four years of their lives and they sacrificed their time, you know we treat them like sons, tomorrow they're our next door neighbour, our friends, they're our relations, you know, they've still got to come home and face the music, and so what, we've got four years to get over this to get some real heat underneath us again and start all over again, we can do that in sport, we can forgive us and all the rest of it and hey another four years, we're in with a grin."
